Knee injury ends Greg Reid's season

Greg Reid had blossomed into a second-team preseason All-America defensive back and Florida State and already was one of the nation's top punt returners.

But he was kicked off the team by coach Jimbo Fisher this month for what was described as a violation of team rules.

Reid, a senior, then transferred to Division II Valdosta State in his hometown of Valdosta, Ga., and was in line to start for the Blazers in their season opener Saturday.

But Wednesday morning, coach David Dean confirmed that Reid suffered a torn ACL in practice last week and is out for the season.

Dean told The Valdosta Daily Times that Reid was injured while returning a punt.

"It is frustrating right now," Dean said. "He came into camp a little late and he gets injured. I know he is frustrated about it. It was a non-contact deal."

Reid does have a redshirt season available.
