Marching band suspended amid hazing probe

Add Division II Clark Atlanta to the schools missing a signature portion of their football presentation as the season opens.

The school announced Friday that it has suspended the Mighty Marching Panthers after it said it received word of an allegation of hazing among the members.

Clark Atlanta University today suspended performances of its "Mighty Marching Panthers" Marching Band, effective immediately, in light of an allegation regarding the possibility of hazing within its ranks. While there is no immediate evidence of hazing or any other foul play, the University of its own volition chooses to take a thorough, comprehensive look into this serious matter. WXIA-TV reported that the band from Mays High in Atlanta is taking the group's place Saturday afternoon for the season opener against 15th-ranked West Alabama.

Florida A&M has suspended its famed Marching 100 for at least this season after the death last November of drum major Robert Champion on a team bus in Orlando. Thirteen members of that band have been indicted, charged with hazing-related crimes in connection with Champion's death.

The Rattlers open play Saturday night in Nashville against Tennessee State.
